CA Tax Deadline Special Updates
March 20, 2023
To help alleviate some of the hardship many have endured during this trying period, the FTB has extended the filing and payment deadlines for most individuals and businesses in California until October 16, 2023. This relief applies to deadlines falling on or after January 8, 2023, and before October 16, 2023.
The IRS is offering California taxpayers more time to file their taxes after the state was hit with a period of severe weather in January. While Tuesday, April 18, 2023, is the tax filing deadline for most Americans, the IRS is offering California residents in designated areas extra time to file. According to the IRS, California grants an automatic extension until October 16, 2023 to file returns. No application is required for an extension to file. The extension applies to every 2022-related action that would have faced an April 17 deadline, including making tax-favored contributions to an IRA or a health savings account.
♦ Individuals whose tax returns and payments are due on April 18, 2023.
♦ Business entities whose tax returns are normally due on March 15 and April 18 are also eligible for the extension.
♦ Quarterly estimated tax payments due on January 17, 2023, April 18, 2023, June 15, 2023, and September 15, 2023 are also eligible for the extension.
♦ PTE Elective Tax payments due on March 15, 2023, and June 15, 2023 are also eligible for the extension.
♦ In addition, farmers who choose to forgo making estimated tax payments and normally file their returns by March 1 now have until Oct. 16, 2023, to file their 2022 return and pay any tax due.
